Premier Health is planning to build a new 12,000-square-foot health center in Liberty Twp. that would expand services provided at its Atrium Medical Center hospital in Middletown.
The Dayton-based health system purchased nearly three acres of land at 6615 Cincinnati-Dayton Road, where it plans to build the center that would house a primary care practice, specialty physicians and other services.
The project, which is still in the planning stages, is expected to open sometime next year.
Expanding in a key community for the hospital’s service area helps Premier Health and Atrium Medical Center meet its mission to improve the health of the communities it serves, and meet a need for more health services in Liberty Twp. closer to where people live, according said Michael Uhl, president of Atrium Medical Center.
“In our mission to continue to serve the needs of the community we have to make sure that we provide services in the right locations that will meet the needs of the patients who utilize our services today,” Uhl told this media outlet.
Liberty Family Medicine, a primary care practice and part of the Premier Physician Network, will relocate from leased space at 7136 Office Park Dr. in Liberty Twp. to the Cincinnati Dayton Road site. The new building will give Liberty Family Medicine room to expand and become even more versatile by adding more health care providers, and with it an undetermined amount of new jobs in the area.
Atrium Medical Center purchased the land last April for $700,000, according to records from the Butler County Auditor’s Office.
Located at the corner of Cincinnati Dayton Road and Bethany Road just south of an Ameristop gas station and Putters Sports Grill, the land had sat dormant since the demolition of Bethany Grocery Store & Carryout.
Uhl said the site offers not just more convenient access, but also increased visibility.
The new facility means another health system making a further investment in the Liberty Twp. market.
Cincinnati Children’s Liberty Campus, which opened at 7777 Yankee Road in August 2008, expanded to include a fourth floor in 2015 and a new Proton Therapy Center in 2016. The Christ Hospital Health Network has the Christ Hospital Outpatient Center at 7335 Yankee Road and Mercy Health Partners has its Mercy Health-Liberty Falls Medical Center at 6770 Cincinnati Dayton Road.
Other facilities showing health systems’ investment in the area include Christ Hospital Medical Center-Liberty Twp., set for a 2017-2018 opening just off Cox Road and Liberty Way, and a planned TriHealth ambulatory care center in the same area.
Liberty Twp. Trustee President Christine Matacic said the decision to open a facility along Cincinnati-Dayton Road says a great deal about the growth of the township and the region.
“If you take a look at the demographics of the township, we have quite a young population here,” she said. “Obviously, Cincinnati Children’s was very important to have for the younger population, but those younger kids grow up and all of us grow older.
Having increased medical facilities closer to home is a convenience for residents, and also saves taxpayers money because having additional facilities closer to home helps the township save on its fire and emergency services, Matacic said.
The new medical facility along Cincinnati-Dayton is “another piece of that puzzle” in the township’s Bethany area, she said.
“As the downtown Bethany area develops, we want some medical offices there, we want the services close to the residents,” Matacic said. “This will be another area that will be able to incorporate that walkability for our residents so that they have easy access.”
