Airline abruptly halts service across the world, leaves passengers stranded

The company told thousands of passengers stranded in other countries to check for available flights with other airlines and ask their credit card companies for refunds.

About 2,700 passengers were left wondering how they would get to their destinations after the airline canceled all 29 of its flights today, according to Bloomberg.

The airline has been struggling among others as fuel costs rise. Last year, it announced it would no longer be offering flights through the Cincinnati airport.

Rival Iceland airline, Icelandair, was supposed to acquire the entire share capital of WOW Air last year, but the proposal fell apart. Further talks between the two airlines ended Sunday, according to CNBC.

The carrier employed more than 1,000 people and carried 3.5 million passengers in 2018, according to CNBC.
