UPDATED: Donald Trump camp made John Kasich offer for VP; Trump camp denies offer

3:04 p.m. Update - Trump sources told CNN the campaign never offered Kasich a spot as VP, and went further, saying that his background read like a 'trashy novel.' The later comment interesting, considering why Trump's campaign was checking into Kasich's background if he wasn't being considered for Vice President or another position.

Trump arrived in Cleveland and greeted the city with a tweet and a denying offering the VP position to Kasich.

John Kasich was offered an opportunity to be Donald Trump's running mate and run domestic and foreign policy, while Trump focused on "Making America Great Again," according to the New York Times.

Donald Trump Jr made Kasich an offer to be "the most powerful vice president in history." The Columbus Dispatch said four sources within Kasich's campaign confirmed the offer.

Kasich has not endorsed Trump and has not stepped foot inside Quicken Loans Arena during the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

The Times article says:

When Kasich’s adviser asked how this would be the case, Donald Jr. explained that his father’s vice president would be in charge of domestic and foreign policy.

Then what, the adviser asked, would Trump be in charge of?

“Making America great again” was the casual reply.
