Pot issue too close to call, poll says

A new poll of likely voters found that state Issue 3, which would legalize marijuana, is too close to call at this point.

Forty-four percent of likely Ohio voters support Issue 3, 43 percent oppose it and nearly 13 percent are undecided, according to a poll from Bowling Green State University. The split tightens among "definite" voters: 46 percent support, 45 percent oppose, 9 percent are undecided.

Issue 2, which seeks to block Issue 3 and prevent future business interests from installing monopolies in the state constitution, is headed for approval with 55.8 percent support, 30.4 percent opposition and 13.7 percent undecided, the poll found.

The poll, conducted by Zogby Analytics, surveyed 804 Ohio voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points. The survey queried slightly more Democrats than Republicans and independents.

Pollsters also found support for legalization stronger among African-Americans, young voters and fans of hip-hop and classic rock.
