Kasich campaigns in Michigan

Ohio Gov. John Kasich won the endorsement of the Detroit News, which said that Kasich "offers a heaping measure of maturity, competence and experience to a GOP race that has taken on the air of a junior high class officer’s election."

Kasich, who is debating in Detroit tonight, is holding campaign events across the Great Lakes State, even making a stop in Marquette on the shores of Lake Superior on Saturday.

He told Michigan reporters that he won't resort to personal attacks on front runner Donald Trump and when asked if he is taking votes away from U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, Kasich retorted: "Maybe he is taking votes away from me."

Kasich's and Rubio's ability to win their home state primaries is seen as a crucial part of the GOP establishment's strategy to stop Trump. You can read about that strategy here: Kasich fits into the GOP strategy

"It gets down to can (Rubio) win Florida? Do I win Ohio? That's what we'll see because if you can't win your own state, then I don't know how you move on," Kasich told reporters in Michigan. You can see video of his remarks here: Kasich talks with reporters
