Bug man named OSU chief academic officer

Ohio State University on Wednesday named Bruce McPheron as its new provost and executive vice president.

McPheron, who grew up in Kenton, earned his bachelor's degree at Ohio State in 1976 and holds a doctorate in entomology from the University of Illinois. He goes by the Twitter handle @medflygenes.

McPheron has been serving as interim provost and has held other administrative posts since 2012.

“Bruce is the special type of leader who inspires those around him to always bring their very best effort,” said OSU President Michael V. Drake in a written statement. “Under his leadership as provost, we are confident that the university will continue to advance its national influence and impact in faculty research, cutting-edge teaching and learning initiatives, and exemplary community and civic engagement.”
