Trump on attack over Miss Universe

In a series of early morning tweets, Donald Trump fanned the flames on a dispute with a former Miss Universe, as Trump claimed the existence of a "sex tape" involving Alicia Machado, who has joined in Hillary Clinton's attacks against Trump since being mentioned in Monday's debate at Hofstra University.

"Crooked Hillary was duped and used by my worst Miss U," Trump tweeted, as he sent out four tweets between 3 am and 5 am on Friday morning.

"Anytime you see a story about me or my campaign saying "sources said," DO NOT believe it," Trump added.

One note - Trump misspelled the word "judgment" - I note this only because he does it repeatedly in his tweets.

Trump - who has not been known in this campaign for being disciplined - ensured that the Miss Universe dispute would be talked about even more on Friday morning TV and radio.

"Maybe Trump should try something more productive at 3:20am - how about debate prep?" said Jim Merrill, who helped run Marco Rubio's campaign in New Hampshire.

If you are sort of puzzled by all of this - go back to the debate when Clinton brought up this issue, talking about how Trump called his Miss Universe, "Miss Piggy" and more.

As the following clip shows, this got attention on Inside Edition - you may chuckle about that, but it's an issue that will get to a lot of people who normally don't watch the network news or the cable TV news networks.

Over at the Clinton Campaign, chief spokesman Brian Fallon was more than happy to jab at Trump first thing this morning:
