Bengals confirm visit from DEA

Bengals officials confirmed Monday they were one of the teams checked by investigators from the Drug and Enforcement Agency to see how members of the medical staff handle prescription drugs.

DEA agents visited the Bengals at the New Orleans airport following the team’s 27-10 victory against the Saints to make sure no one was carrying any illegal controlled substances and that all paperwork was in order.

“The Bengals have never had any issues regarding prescriptions/controlled substances,” the team said in a statement. “We have a highly rated medical staff that handles these matters with concern for proper and legal practices. Any issues which might be present elsewhere are not present with our organization.”

The Associated Press reported the DEA conducted multiple checks on visiting teams as part of a broader probe following claims by former players that NFL teams have been mishandling prescription drugs.

Other teams stopped Sunday included the San Francisco 49ers, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Seattle Seahawks, all of whom played road games.
