Driver killed in crash with Lakota school bus identified

No students were on the bus, police said.

LIBERTY TWP. —The Butler County Sheriff’s Office has identified the driver of a vehicle who died when the vehicle went into the path of a Lakota Local Schools bus.

Debra A. Halsey, 61, of Forest Park was the driver of a black 2019 Chevrolet Cruze that was struck in the crash at Millikin Road and Fieldstone Farms Boulevard on Monday morning.

Investigators said there were no students on the bus during the crash and the bus driver was not injured. The intersection was shut down following the incident.

Police said the reason Halsey crossed the yellow line into oncoming traffic is not known.

“While our bus driver was not injured, we are deeply saddened to learn that the driver of the car has passed away. Our thoughts go out to the driver’s family,” said Betsy Fuller, spokeswoman for Lakota Schools.

The crash remains under investigation by the Traffic Investigations Unit and the Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team, according to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.
