Xenia hosts Beavercreek in Backyard Battle season football opener

Xenia will host Beavercreek in the 16th annual Backyard Battle to open the high school football season. The game will be played at Xenia’s Doug Adams Stadium / Veterans Field at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 24.

An awards ceremony will be held after the game, featuring the Walter G. Sellers Memorial Leadership Award (two senior players who are outstanding on the field, the classroom and their communities), offensive player of the game, defensive player of the game, scout player of the week and special teams player of the game.

Speed Zone Carryout on Lower Bellbrook Road in Xenia is sponsoring the awards.

Xenia mayor Marsha Bayless and Beavercreek mayor Bob Stone will present the traveling trophy to the winning team. Beavercreek holds an 8-7 series advantage and defeated Xenia 37-20 last season.

Other Week 1 games that night are Alter at Fairmont and Dunbar vs. Belmont at Welcome Stadium, both at 7 p.m.
