Wilmington College opens season by snapping 19-game losing streak

The Wilmington College football team opened is season with a win, and the end of a 19-game losing streak.

The Fightin’ Quakers were too much for the Earlham Quakers with a 49-20 win Saturday.

Wilmington came out firing and led at halftime 28-6. P.J. Meyer’s 80-yard touchdown catch at the end of the half put the game out of reach.

Quarterback Luke Creditt passed for 167 yards and ran for 116. Eric Flynn Jr.  ran for 120 yards and two touchdowns. The Fightin’ Quakers ran for 381 yards, tying the program record for most in a game, matching the number Wilmington gained against Bluffton in 1993.

Besides the 19-game losing streak, Wilmington had won only one game in the last four seasons.

“Of all the stuff I’ve prepared for, I didn’t prepare for this moment,” Wilmington College coach Bryan Moore said. “I didn’t prepare myself for how it would feel after this win.”

Moore will have a week to let it sink in. Wilmington has a bye before visiting Otterbein on Sept. 16.
