Teams adjust Friday schedule to avoid OSU football in Cotton Bowl

Many area high school sports teams have adjusted their schedules on Friday to avoid a conflict with the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic. Ohio State (11-2) will play Southern Cal (11-2) at 8:30 p.m. at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas (ESPN).

That’s usually prime Friday night time for high school basketball. Ohio school officials learned long ago to avoid scheduling against OSU football or risk a wee gate.

If you’re planning on adjusting or already have altered your Friday game schedule because of the Cotton Bowl, we want to hear from you. Forward your information by email at sports@coxohio.com and we’ll post all changes to this story.

Trotwood-Madison adjusted its tripleheader boys basketball schedule against visiting Wayne on Friday. The opening freshman game is now at 3 p.m., followed by the JV at 4:30 p.m. and a great varsity showdown at 6 p.m. Trotwood (5-1) is averaging 94.8 points and has lost only at Akron St.-Vincent St. Mary’s, 81-71. The Irish also beat the Rams in last season’s D-II state title game.

Trotwood also will award D-III football state championship medals to team members at halftime of the varsity game. Trotwood defeated Dresden Tri-Valley 27-19 to complete a 15-0 season and win its second state title in program history earlier this month at Canton.
