Several Reds set new marks despite the team’s rally falling just short in an 8-7 loss to the Cubs:
- Zack Cozart clubbed his 17th home run. It sets a new career-high, and moved him into the third place for most homers by a Reds shortstop (75).
- Outfielder Phillip Ervin collected his first hit and home run in a single swing. He's the first Red to homer for his first hit since Juan Francisco in 2009. Ervin was promoted on Tuesday.
- The Reds inexplicably lost to a postseason contender on a walk-off wild pitch for the second time this road trip. They lost Saturday's contest to Milwaukee on the same blunder.
- Homer Bailey struck-out 10 Cubs, but allowing six runs will overshadow that. It was his eighth time reaching double-digit strikeouts. He threw a season-high 109 pitches.
- The 38-year-old Cubs pitcher John Lackey, who spent most of his career in the American League, stole his first base yesterday. Boston's Joe Kelly was the last pitcher to steal a base on Cincinnati (2014).
