Recruiting roundup: Big Ten offer for Sidney standout

Welcome back to another edition of the Miami Valley high school football recruiting roundup.

The class of 2018 continues to introduce itself as colleges hold junior days and hand out offers.

This week we lead off with Devan Rogers, a junior defensive lineman from Sidney who can now brag about having a Big Ten offer to his name thanks to Rutgers, where former Ohio State assistant Chris Ash is entering his second year as head coach.

Prior to the Scarlet Knights, Rogers was offered by Bowling Green and Iowa State, where former Toledo head coach Matt Campbell seems intent on making sure his program has a strong presence in Ohio.

Meanwhile, teammate Isaiah Bowser is planning a visit to West Virginia this weekend.

Bowser led the GWOC in rushing last season with 1,877 yards and 28 touchdowns.

Alex Reigelsperger, a defensive end from Wayne, shared Thursday his plans to make a quick visit to Cincinnati, where the new defensive coordinator is Marcus Freeman.

Freeman starred at Wayne in the early 2000s before going on to be a captain at Ohio State.

The latest team to offer Reigelsperger is Minnesota, who also offered Tyler Bentley of Lakota West recently.

Dunbar linebacker Antwuan Johnson added another offer with Ohio joining a group that already includes Louisville, Kentucky, Iowa, Indiana, Louisville and Michigan.

Johnson recently visited Kentucky and Cincinnati, where he sees good things developing under new head coach Luke Fickell.

"He came to my school to see me already," Johnson told Scout.com's Bill Greene. "I have a good relationship with Marcus Freeman, and I'm looking differently at Cincinnati now. Just Coach Fickell alone makes it a great school."

Greene reports Johnson is planning to visit West Virginia and Indiana this weekend with a trip to Pittsburgh in two weeks.

Last week we noted Xavier Peters was offered by Pittsburgh, and it turns out his recruiter is someone who knows southwest Ohio well: John Peterson of Middletown.

"To be honest, I wasn't really expecting this offer but Coach Peterson told me I can tell you're a good kid, that I was on top of my game and that we'd love to have you at Pitt," Peters told PittsburghSportsNw.com. "I'm from Middletown, we're not a school that normally gets a lot of attention so I was surprised with that offer and all the offers I've received to the point. I'm just thankful."

Lastly, LandOf10.com recently took a look at some of the in-state players Ohio State figures to target for 2018, a group that includes local prospects such as Fairfield five-star offensive lineman Jackson Carmon.
