Prolific Prep overtakes IMG Academy at Flyin’

Jeenathon Williams and Nimari Burnett each scored 16 points to pace a balanced attack as Prolific Prep (Calif.) withstood IMG Academy (Fla.) 75-71 in the last of five 16th annual Premier Health Flyin’ to the Hoop games on Saturday at Trent Arena.

That was one less game than was scheduled.

Both teams were loaded with NCAA D-I recruits. Williams is headed to the University of Buffalo and Burnett, a 6-3 guard, is labeled among the nation’s best sophomores.

Sekou Toure added 15 points, Alimamy Koroma 11 points and nine rebounds and Amadou Sow (UC Santa Barbara) 10 points for Prolific Prep.

Keyshawn Embery hit five 3-pointers and led IMG with 30 points. Jahmius Ramsey added 18 points and Josh Green 11.

Prolific Prep also will play Garfield Heights at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.

• Hilliard Bradley reluctantly informed Flyin’ president Eric Horstman that school administration ruled they would not be allowed to travel to Kettering because of the winter snow and ice storm that hit on Friday afternoon. Horstman had a backup plan of Belmont filling Bradley’s spot against Spire Academy. That, too, unraveled, when district officials ruled the Bison couldn’t play because there was no school on Friday.

Instead of six games on Saturday, that game was scraped and there were five. Six more games are scheduled for Sunday and Monday.

“We had 3,500 people in here Friday and it was a blizzard,” Horstman said. “We sold out (Saturday). There’s a gap in time, but not a gap in talent or enthusiasm. We’re still going forward.”
