Saban, winner of four national championships as coach at Alabama and another at LSU, offered Dunbar running back Tavion Thomas, a week earlier while five-star offensive tackle Jackson Carman of Fairfield has been high on the radar of seemingly every national power for a long time.
Scates and Thomas were part of a group from Dunbar that traveled to Tuscaloosa for an unofficial visit this weekend.

Vann made the trip south, too, to see Saban’s program up close.
The aforementioned foursome and Wayne receiver L’Christian “Blue” Smith make five area players who have been offered by Alabama.
Last year, five-star offensive tackle Josh Myers was the only area player to receive an Alabama offer, but he committed early to Ohio State and eventually signed with the Buckeyes.
Saban, a former Ohio State assistant who played at Kent State, is no stranger to the area, having signed Ryan Kelly out of Lakota West in 2011 and Trey DePriest from Springfield in the same year.
