7 more great Franklin High School athletes

Franklin High School’s Luke Kennard, after two seasons at Duke University, is expected to be drafted tonight in the first round of the NBA draft.

Here are 7 other great Franklin High School athletes, all members of the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame, in alphabetical order:

STEVE BRADLEY

Bradley, a 1982 Franklin graduate, may be the school’s greatest all-around gymnast. He won team and individual titles at Franklin. He later was a four-time all-American at Ohio State. He’s a member of Franklin’s Hall of Fame.

SUSAN HAMMOCK-HOLLON

Hammock-Hollon may be the greatest long distance runner in school history. She won a state title in the 3,200, then starred at Wichita State. She is a member of the Franklin, Wichita State and Missouri Valley Conference athletic hall of fame.

DARRELL HEDRIC

Hedric, a 1951 Franklin High graduate was a standout basketball player who later played and coached at Miami University. He coached at Miami from 1970 to 1984, compiling a record of 216-157 and along the way recruited several excellent players, most notably Ron Harper, who went on to win NBA championships.

He was inducted into the Miami Athletic Hall of Fame in 1978, and in 1986 Miami retired his jersey No. 86. He is an inductee of the Franklin and Butler County Halls of Fame. He was inducted into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012.

TRAVIS LAKINS

Lakins, a two-sport standout at Franklin, he played baseball at Ohio State and now is the No. 2 pitching prospect in the Boston Red Sox system. The 22-year-old right-handed pitcher was drafted by the Red Sox in the sixth round in 2015 out of Ohio State.

FRANK LICKLITER II

Lickliter, a 1987 Franklin graduate, was one of the top junior golfers in the state, golfed at Wright State University, then played on the PGA Tour, where he won two tournaments. He graduated from Wright State University in 1991, the same year he turned professional. He’s a member of the WSU Hall of Fame.

NICK MONK

Monk, a 1996 Franklin graduate, holds all the school rushing records, more than 20 years after he graduated. As a 14-year-old freshman, Monk led the state in all purpose yards, scoring 25 touchdowns, including five in one game. He later played running back and linebacker at Miami University. He will be inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame this year.

ROBERT “BOB” TIMBERLAKE

Timberlake, a 1961 Franklin product, played at the University of Michigan from 1962 to 1964 and for the New York Giants of the National Football League in 1965. He was the starting quarterback for Michigan and led the Wolverines to the 1964 Big Ten Conference championship and a 34-7 victory over Oregon State Beavers in the 1965 Rose Bowl. Timberlake was selected as a first-team All-American in 1964, received the Chicago Tribune Silver Football trophy as the Most Valuable Player in the Big Ten, and finished fourth in the 1964 Heisman Trophy voting.

Over his three years at Michigan, Timberlake rushed for 315 yards and passed for 1,507 yards. He was responsible for 19 touchdowns, 11 rushing and eight passing. He also served as the team’s punter and placekicker with six field goals, 36 extra points, and a total of 121 points scored.
