Mason boys start fast in lacrosse tournament

The Mason boys lacrosse team moved closer to playing for the first OHSAA sanctioned state title during the opening rounds of the Division I, Region 4 tournament.

Mason opened the tournament with a 15-5 win over Lebanon before dispatching Lakota East 14-7 to set up a May 24 regional semifinal against Moeller.

“When we last played Moeller on May 3rd at Moeller we beat them 11-9. However, that was a close game,” Mason coach Paul Limpert said. “Moeller is a very good team and we expect this game to be very closely contested as well.”

The Comets defense has been stout in the postseason led by seniors Parker Hopson and Nick Bosticco in front of keeper JJ Shaw.

“Our scoring has been somewhat inconsistent,” Limpert said. “But when it’s on it is generally on and there are usually multiple contributors.”

Noah Harrison and Xander Wells have led the attack in the postseason for the Comets.

Lebanon opened the tournament with a 9-1 win over Anderson while Lakota East eliminated Kings 12-11.

Little Miami finished 14-3 after beating McNicholas in the opening round 15-5 before falling to Seven Hills 16-6.

Little Miami led 3-1 after the first quarter but trailed Seven Hills 6-4 at the half.

“We completely lost our way in the second half,” coach Matt Traister said.

The Mason girls opened the tournament with a 15-5 win over Lebanon before falling 15-10 to Springboro. Kings lost to St. Ursula Academy 7-6 in the first round while Little Miami dropped its Division II contest to Mother of Mercy 17-9.

Baseball: A deep run in the tournament ended for Lebanon in the district finals.

Lebanon, the seventh seed in the tournament coming out of Cincinnati, upset fifth-seed Loveland 2-1 to claim the sectional final before falling to St. Xavier 6-0 in the district title game.

St. Xavier had won the sectional with a 11-2 win over Mason.

Kings just missed knocking off second-seed Fairfield in the sectional finals, falling 8-7 in eight innings.

Tennis: Mason advanced four to the state tournament after another strong showing at the Division I district tournament.
