High School Football: ‘Locked in’ Comets blank Princeton

Visiting Mason got a pair of third-quarter touchdowns in handing surging Princeton a 14-0 Week 8 high school football defeat on Friday, Oct. 13.

The game was scoreless at halftime. Princeton had won three of its last four entering the contest.

“Anytime you are able to get on a roll like that in the Greater Miami Conference, you had better make sure all the boxes are checked,” Mason coach Brian Castner said. “But it is hard to get teenagers to wrap their heads around something like that and be ready to go.”

Will Adams opened the scoring for the Comets with a 28-yard run before Matt Sora found the end zone from three yards out for the final margin.

Mason held Princeton to 95 yards in total offense while Sora piled up 190 yards on 25 carries for the Comets.

“Matt had a great game for us,” Castner said. “I thought our defense was off the charts. I don’t know if they crossed midfield because we were about as locked in as you could be.”

Miamisburg 24, Lebanon 13: After starting the season 2-0, Lebanon dropped its sixth straight in falling to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference National West.

Brendan Lamb got the Warriors on the board to cut the Miamisburg lead to 7-6, but the Warriors trailed 21-6 at halftime and 24-6 before Derrick Allen hauled in a 30-yard pass from Kyle Short in the fourth quarter.

Lebanon held Miamisburg to 104 yards on the ground, but the offense turned it over three times.

Kings 35, Walnut Hills 16: Kings' defense and a different-look offense stole the show on senior night.

The defense allowed one score late in the game and Walnut Hills didn’t go over 100 yards in total offense until the reserves had been put in late in the second half.

The offense was led by senior Justin Wise (88 yards rushing), Jake Stylski (61), and quarterback Ashton Koller (54).

Koller had three scoring runs and was also 15 of 23 for 149 yards through the air for the Knights.

Kings’ second straight win keeps a .500 season in reach. The Knights are 3-5 overall and 2-3 in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference.

Little Miami 14, Ross 0: For the first time since 2008, Little Miami is going to finish the football season with a winning record.

The win over Ross pushed the Panthers to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the Southwestern Ohio Conference.

Quarterback Brody Reder threw two scoring passes in first quarter, one to Jake Shirey and one to Ryan Sellars.

“Our defense is playing really well,” Little Miami coach Nate Mahon said. “And our sophomore quarterback is getting better each week.”
