Future Buckeye evokes one of the greats from past describing his game

Darius Bazley, the second Ohio State commit to take the floor Monday during the last day of Flyin’ to the Hoop, shook off a slow start to finish with 11 points and 10 rebounds as his Princeton team was crushed 77-48 by Marietta (Ga.) Wheeler.

Bazley had just two point in the first half but contributed nine in the second.

He was making his season debut after having to sit out the first 11 games of the season following his transfer from Finneytown.

Ohio State coach Thad Matta was among those in attendance as the 6-9 junior showed off his skillset, and Bazley said he has a certain former Matta player in mind to copy his game after: Evan Turner.

“He did it all for them and went on to the NBA,” Bazley said. “I want to be a position-less player. They can say, ‘OK Darius, you’re gonna be here this play. You’re here this play.’ I want to do anything down the stretch just because I can do it.”

Turner had his jersey retired last year. The Chicago native was the national player of the year in 2010 and taken second in the NBA draft that summer.
