Football state photo gallery: Marion Local second in all-time championships

Marion Local is No. 2 and closing.

The Flyers (15-0) won their 10th overall state football championship this past Saturday, defeating Kirtland 34-11 for the Division VI title at the new Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Stark County. That breaks and tie with Cincinnati Moeller and elevates Marion Local to No. 2 for most all-time state football championships.

Just ahead of Marion Local is No. 1 Cleveland St. Ignatius, which has 11 titles but the last in 2011.

Marion Local has won all 10 of its titles since 2000 and all with coach Tim Goodwin in place. The Flyers also have played for seven straight state championships, winning all but one.

“It’s a lot of things,” Goodwin said following the win. “When you get it rolling like we have, it’s talent in the right spots. You have coaches who have worked together for a decade. The parents and everyone knows what the expectations are. The players buy in and work extremely hard pretty much year around in the weight room. When it’s their turn, they’re ready to go. It’s all those factors.”

The game drew 8,062 spectators. Here’s a photo gallery of the Flyers’ latest state title effort:
