College Insider: Locals boost Thomas More softball

The Thomas More College softball team earned an NCAA Division III tournament berth this spring, aided by the efforts of several local players.

Junior shortstop Ana Walter, a Lebanon High School graduate, hit .359 and led the Saints in doubles (18), triples (two, tied) and runs (39). She also had a home run and 19 RBIs.

Sophomore outfielder Kayla Fulcher (Cincinnati Christian) played in 34 games and had a .300 batting average with one RBI.

Junior outfielder/third baseman Krista Summe (Cincinnati Christian) participated in 43 contests and hit .192, totaling four doubles, two triples, three homers and 22 RBIs.

Sophomore first baseman Kaylee Bush (Madison) played in five games and hit .250.

Thomas More (27-17) won the Presidents’ Athletic Conference tournament and went 1-2 at the NCAA Regional in Greencastle, Ind.

• Mount St. Joseph senior outfielder Mallory Wright (Valley View) earned a spot on the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference second team.

Wright had a .339 batting average and paced the Lions in runs (29), hits (39), triples (two) and stolen bases (15). She also had three doubles and 13 RBIs as MSJ finished 19-13.

Teammate Alli Lenos (Madison), a sophomore infielder/catcher, played in 20 games and hit .264 with a double and 10 RBIs.

• Freshman catcher/infielder Kate Bartolovich (Fairfield) was among the top hitters for Northern Kentucky (6-42).

She started every game for the Norse, hitting .295 with eight doubles, two triples, five homers and 14 RBIs. Senior pitcher/infielder Alex Caudill (Lakota West) had a .357 average in limited at-bats — she was 2-15 with a 9.11 earned run average in the circle.

Freshman pitcher Ashlynn Roberts (Fairfield) led NKU in victories, going 4-15 with a 7.02 ERA. She hit .242 with seven doubles and nine RBIs.

• Sophomore infielder/outfielder Jill Bunnell (Franklin) played in 15 games and hit .346 with three RBIs for Cumberlands, which finished 20-23.

Women's track & field: Freshman Jacquelyn Crow (Lebanon) established a Furman record in the 1,500 meters last Friday at the Oregon Twilight meet in Eugene, Ore.

Crow finished eighth in 4:25.32, breaking the former record of 4:27.01. That was set last month by teammate Allie Buchalski, a redshirt freshman.
