College Insider: Talawanda’s Richter shining in Florida

Ana Richter is among the top players for the Southeastern University women’s basketball team, one of three unbeaten squads in NAIA Division II.

Richter, a Talawanda High School graduate in her first season with the Fire after transferring from Miami University, is the No. 4 scorer with a 10.3 average.

The 6-foot-1 junior guard is also averaging 4.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists and a team-leading 3.1 steals per game. She collected 12 steals in Southeastern’s last contest against St. Joseph’s (Maine) on Dec. 30.

Richter has started eight games and is shooting 48 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from 3-point range. Sarah Beth Richter, Ana’s sister, is a freshman center for the Fire and hasn’t played this season.

Southeastern, based in Lakeland, Fla., is 12-0 overall and 4-0 in The Sun Conference. The other two undefeated teams in NAIA D-II are both from Illinois — St. Xavier and St. Francis.

The Fire will travel to North Miami, Fla., to face Johnson & Wales on Thursday at 7 p.m.

• Junior forward Stephanie Clark (Badin) has made 10 starts and is averaging 6.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game for Muskingum.

She is also shooting 51.9 percent from the field and 83.3 percent from the foul line.

The Fighting Muskies are 7-4 overall and 3-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. They will visit Marietta on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Men's basketball: Junior guard Kevin Christie (Fenwick) is averaging 5.7 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game off the bench for Bluffton.

Christie is also shooting 85.2 percent from the free-throw line for the Beavers, who are 8-2 overall and 1-2 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Bluffton travels to Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

• Junior forward Tyler Bowling (Lakota West) is averaging 5.0 points and 2.4 rebounds per contest off the bench for Seton Hill, which is 5-5 overall and 2-4 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

Bowling is shooting 56.8 percent from the floor and 61.5 percent from the foul line for the Griffins, who will host Edinboro on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Hockey: Freshman defenseman Clay Han (Lakota East) has played in seven games and scored two goals for Dartmouth, which is 4-6-3 overall and 1-3-2 in the Eastern College Athletic Conference.

The Big Green will host Princeton on Friday at 7 p.m.
