College Insider: Middletown’s Colson top runner for Ohio Dominican

Ohio Dominican University’s E.J. Colson is the leading rusher in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference this season.

The redshirt junior running back and Middletown High School product has carried the ball 72 times for 407 yards and three touchdowns for the Panthers, who are 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the GMAC.

Colson also has seven receptions for 34 yards.

ODU will be at home against Alderson Broaddus (W.Va.) on Saturday at noon.

• Freshman defensive back Cedric Thomas (Lakota West) has been a standout for Pikeville (Ky.), which is 2-3 heading into Saturday’s Mid-South Conference opener at Point (Ga.) at 1:30 p.m.

Thomas has two interceptions and returned a fumble for a touchdown for the Bears. He’s also got 15 solo tackles and five assists.

Teammate Tellis Kennedy (Fairfield), a junior running back, has four rushes for 5 yards.

• Senior running back Drake Campbell (Edgewood) is the top rusher for Bluffton, totaling 137 yards on 28 carries. He also has two catches for 25 yards and two kickoff returns for 45 yards.

Senior Kevin Bishop (Lebanon), a starting defensive tackle, has assisted on three tackles.

The Beavers are 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. They will host Mount St. Joseph on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Women's soccer: Senior Kelsie Lee (Lakota West) is playing a dual role for Rio Grande. She's second in scoring as a forward with three goals and also has an .881 save percentage in four games as the goalkeeper.

The RedStorm are 3-4-1 overall and 1-0 in the River States Conference. They will travel to Point Park (Pa.) on Thursday at 3 p.m.

Men's soccer: Urbana sophomore defender Zach Poff (Edgewood) has made seven starts and scored one goal, the first of his collegiate career.

The Blue Knights are 5-2-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the Mountain East Conference. They will visit Notre Dame College on Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Volleyball: Sophomore middle hitter Blaise Chaney (Fenwick) is among the top players for Hanover (Ind.). She ranks second in kills (104) and total blocks (38).

The Panthers are 7-7 and will begin Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play at Bluffton on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
