College Insider: Middletown’s Calhoun leads EMU football in tackles

Vince Calhoun is pacing the Eastern Michigan University football team in tackles this fall and also ranks among the Mid-American Conference leaders.

The sophomore rover and Middletown High School graduate has 47 total tackles, 25 solos and 22 assists. He has 28 tackles in the last two weeks, including a career-high 16 on Oct. 7 against Toledo.

The Eagles are 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the MAC West Division. They will host Western Michigan on Saturday at 2 p.m.

• Junior safety John Kirby (Lebanon) is having a standout season for Rose-Hulman, which stands 6-1 overall and 5-0 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Kirby leads the Engineers with 51 total tackles (38 solos, 13 assists). He has four tackles for loss and two interceptions.

Rose-Hulman will host Franklin (Ind.) on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Men's soccer: Three Lakota West products are part of a Capital squad that is 9-5 overall and 3-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Senior defender Hunter Stiger and freshman forward/defender Wesly Coleman have started every game, with Stiger collecting two goals. Sophomore forward Andrew McEwen has made three starts.

The Crusaders will host Marietta on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

• Freshman defender Josh Neal (St. Xavier) of Fairfield has a pair of assists for Urbana, which 8-5 overall and 6-3 in the Mountain East Conference.

The Blue Knights will meet visiting Charleston on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Volleyball: Senior setter Allie Muha (Lakota West) leads Bellarmine with 780 assists.

She ranks second in service aces (15) and third in digs (210) while adding 55 kills and 25 total blocks.

The Knights, 16-5 overall and 6-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, host Southern Indiana on Friday at 7 p.m.

Women's soccer: Freshman defender Erin Babcock (Lakota East) has six starts and one goal for Akron, which 1-13-2 overall and 0-7-1 in the Mid-American Conference East Division.

The Zips will be at home against Miami on Thursday at 7 p.m.
