College Insider: Fenwick’s Rossi breaks shot put record at UD

Junior Jenni Rossi broke her own University of Dayton record in the shot put last Saturday at the Illinois Twilight track and field meet in Champaign, Ill.

The Fenwick High School graduate took first place with a heave of 49 feet, 8.25 inches, the best effort in the Atlantic 10 Conference this season. Her previous record was 49 feet, 3.75 inches.

Rossi also placed fourth in the hammer throw (169 feet, 10 inches).

The Flyers will be in Oxford for Miami’s RedHawk Invitational on Saturday.

Baseball: Wabash (Ind.) sophomore catcher Erich Lange (Fairfield) is hitting .375 over his last six games, raising his batting average to .278.

Lange has made 18 starts for the Little Giants, totaling six doubles, two triples, 11 RBIs and 13 runs.

Wabash, 20-13 overall and 5-7 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, hosts DePauw for a noon doubleheader Saturday.

Softball: Sophomore first baseman Kherrin Morgan (Talawanda) leads Gannon in home runs (six) and RBIs (19).

She’s made 31 starts and is hitting .278 with five doubles and nine runs for the Golden Knights, who are 24-11 overall and 11-5 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

Gannon visits California (Pa.) for a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader Friday.

Women's lacrosse: Freshman midfielder Clara Blaine (Lebanon) and junior midfielder Becca Petra (Lakota East) are the top two scorers for Wilmington, which is 2-12 overall and 1-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Blaine has 24 goals for the Quakers, while Petra has 14 goals and one assist. Freshman midfielder Rachel Brown (Lebanon) is fifth with nine goals and one assist.

In addition, junior attacker Carmen Watson-Stuckey (Madison) has played in 11 games and started six.

Wilmington travels to Capital on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Men's lacrosse: Cumberlands sophomore goalie Dakota Lambing (Lakota East) earned a spot on the Appalachian Athletic Conference second team.

Lambing started 13 games and made 116 saves for the Patriots (9-5). His save percentage was .547.

Women's tennis: Sophomore Cassidy Hicks (Hamilton) topped Wofford in singles and doubles victories this season.

Hicks posted a 14-9 record at No. 2 singles and combined with senior Kalli Karas for a 14-9 mark at No. 1 doubles.

The Terriers finished 11-13 overall and 1-6 in the Southern Conference.
