College Insider: East’s Lowry brothers shining at Hillsdale

The Lowry brothers from Lakota East High School are key players for the Hillsdale (Mich.) College men’s basketball team.

Stedman Lowry, a redshirt junior guard, leads the Chargers in scoring with a 15.9 average and is also getting 4.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. He’s shooting 46.1 percent from the floor, 41.5 percent from 3-point range and 81 percent from the line.

Dylan Lowry, a redshirt freshman guard, has made one start and is averaging 7.7 points, 2.3 assists and 1.8 boards per game. He’s shooting 50.6 percent from the field, 35.7 percent from beyond the arc and 89.3 percent from the charity stripe.

Freshman center Matt Fisher (Cincinnati Christian) has appeared in one game this season.

Hillsdale is 7-9 overall and 3-7 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Chargers will host Walsh on Thursday at 8 p.m.

Women's basketball: Freshman guard Danielle Wells (Lakota West) is playing a significant role at Indiana East.

Wells has started six games and is averaging 8.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per contest. She’s shooting 42 percent from the floor, 50 percent from 3-point range and 81 percent from the line.

The Red Wolves are 16-4 overall and 7-0 in the River States Conference. They will host Indiana Kokomo on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

• Sophomore guard Lauren Cannatelli (Lakota West) is averaging 5.8 points per game and has a free-throw percentage of 93.3 for Dayton.

She has made one start this year for the Flyers, who are 11-7 overall and 5-1 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. They will host St. Joseph’s on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Wrestling: Thomas More sophomore Aaron Cox (Ross) won two matches and took eighth place at 141 pounds in last Saturday's 13-team Spartan Mat Classic, which was hosted by Manchester (Ind.).

The Saints finished 10th in the team standings. They will compete at the Max Servies Duals on Saturday in Crawfordsville, Ind.
