College Football: Miami picked to finish second in MAC East

The Miami RedHawks were picked to finish second in the Mid-American Conference East Division preseason poll released today.

The RedHawks were edged out by Ohio, 131-129, in voting by conference media. Miami received 12 first-place votes to 11 for Ohio.

Bowling Green (88) was third, followed by Akron (79), Buffalo (41) and Kent State (36.)

Toledo (142) was picked to win the West Division, followed by Western Michigan (107), Northern Illinois (89), Eastern Michigan (74), Central Michigan (62) and Ball State (30).

The RedHawks received one vote as the overall MAC champ.

Miami returns 17 starters from a team that finished 6-7 overall and tied for the MAC East title. After an 0-6 start, the RedHawks won six straight games to end the regular season before falling to Mississippi State 17-16 in the St. Petersburg Bowl.

Miami opens the season Sept. 2 at Marshall. The home opener is Sept. 9 vs. Austin Peay.
