Miami drops third straight game -- 17-14 at Kent State

The Miami RedHawks lost their third straight game Saturday, blowing a halftime lead in a 17-14 road loss at Kent State.

George Bollas threw a pair of third-quarter touchdown passes at the Golden Flashes erased a 14-3 halftime deficit en route to their first Mid-American Conference win of the season.

Miami, which shared the MAC East crown with Ohio last season, fell to 1-2 in conference play and 2-5 overall. Kent State improved to 2-5, 1-2.

The RedHawks answered an early Kent State field goal with a pair of first-half touchdowns. Quarterback Billy Bahl hit Jadmes Gardner (13 yards) and Ryan Smith (2 yards) to take the RedHawks to the halftime lead.

Bollas hit Justin Rankin on a 4-yard TD pass to make it 14-10 then gave the Golden Flashes the lead on an 84-yard bomb to Mike Kerrigan with 37 seconds left in the third.

Miami’s Sam Sloman missed a 26-yard field goal with 7:34 to play.

Bahl finished 12-of-29 for 174 yards. He also threw two interceptions. Alonzo Smith added 96 yards on the ground for Miami.

Bollas was 9-of-14 for 154 yards.

Miami returns home next Saturday to host Buffalo in MAC play at 2:30 p.m. at Yager Stadium.
