Fordham had taken a 54-48 lead with 2:10 left in the game on a Joseph Chartouny layup off a Tre Evans steal. But the Rams missed their last three shots as Miami rallied.
Jake Wright cut the Fordham lead in half, hitting a 3 with 1:31 to go, McLane made it a one-point game with less than a minute left and Adaway scored the winner on a drive with 4 seconds left.
“These guys were just so resilient,” Owens said. “They continued to fight hard throughout the comeback. During the final timeout I told them to relax as they were getting tense. I reminded them that if we just stuck to the game plan we could make that shot. Ultimately we found a way to get it done.”
Dalonte Brown added eight points and seven rebounds for the RedHawks.
Will Tavares led Fordham with 15 points and Chartouny had 14.
Miami’s home opener is Tuesday night vs. Wright State.
