Cincinnati Bengals: Quarterback cleared to return to practice

Bengals third-string quarterback Jeff Driskel, out since Sept. 4 due to a hand injury, will return to practice Wednesday, the team announced today.

Driskel was place on injured reserved after being injured in the preseason finale against Indianapolis. His return starts a three-week window during which he can practice with the team without being counted toward the 53-man active roster. He can be added to the roster at any time during the three-week period.

A second-year player, Driskel was a sixth-round draft pick in 2016 by San Francisco. The Bengals acquired him on waivers prior to Week 1 last season. Driskel spent all of the 2016 season on the Bengals’ 53-man roster, but did not play in a game. He played in all four preseason games this year, completing 14 of 21 passes for 164 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for a TD.

The move is one of a possible two instances a team can return a player to practice from the reserve/injured list.
