Betting lines for Browns, DeShone Kizer

The Browns' season could go a number of directions. Sports Betting Dime suggests most of them aren't good.

The site gives Cleveland the second-best odds at the No. 1 overall pick. Their 5/1 is second to the Jets’ 4/1.

DeShone Kizer, who isn’t expected to start opening weekend, has the fourth-best odds to throw the most touchdowns among rookies (11/2), trailing all the signal callers drafted before him in Deshaun Watson, Mitchell Trubisky and Patrick Mahomes.

It’s interesting that Mahomes (7/2) comes ahead of Kizer. Most expect Mahomes to sit as Alex Smith leads the contending Chiefs, while it’s assumed Kizer will eventually take the starting job this season.

As for the quarterback competition, Brock Osweiler is favored to start at 3/2, with Cody Kessler (13/7) and Kizer (3/1) behind.

“A month ago, there was no way Jackson was starting his rookie QB in Week 1. But Kizer was certainly the most impressive of the bunch in the first week of the preseason, and is gaining some traction to move up the depth chart. It’s still unlikely Jackson throws the second-round pick out there in Week 1, but expect Kizer to receive an opportunity at some point this season.”

A successful season for the Browns would probably sit somewhere around five wins, realistically. If Kizer exceeds his listed odds, the team is in even better shape moving forward than it already appears.
