Ohio State fell to 6-1 and 3-1 in the Big Ten with its first loss in October during the Urban Meyer era. He’s 17-1 in five seasons in this month. The Buckeyes also saw their school record streak of 20 straight wins in true road games end.

Barrett completed 28 of 43 passes for 245 yards with one touchdown. Curtis Samuel led the rushing attack with 71 yards and also had eight catches for 68 yards.

A week after a 30-23 overtime victory at Wisconsin, Ohio State found some breathing room in the third quarter. A 74-yard touchdown run by Curtis Samuel pushed a slim halftime lead to 19-7

Penn State’s next drive ended with a high snap on a punt. The Nittany Lions recovered it in the end zone for a safety, giving Ohio State a 21-7 lead.

After doing little on its first three drives of the second half, Penn State quickly got back in the game with a 90-yard scoring drive. A 37-yard run by Saquon Barkley was followed by a 35-yard pass from McSorley to Saeed Blacknell. McSorley finished the drive with a 2-yard touchdown run.

Things got worse for the Buckeyes. Penn State’s Cameron Brown blocked a punt by Cameron Johnston. That set up Penn State with the ball at the Ohio State 28-yard line. The Buckeyes held the Nittany Lions to a 34-yard field goal, but their lead shrunk to 21-17 with 9:33 to play.

The Buckeyes led 12-7 at halftime thanks to two field goals by Tyler Durbin and a 26-yard touchdown pass from J.T. Barrett to Marcus Baugh.

It took a tremendous effort by Baugh to get in the end zone. He caught a short pass along the Ohio State sideline, broke one tackle and then carried a defender across the goal line. Ohio State led 12-0 at that point. Durbin missed the extra point following the touchdown.

Penn State had done little on offense since an opening drive resulted in a missed field goal. Then the Nittany Lions drove 74 yards in 65 seconds, scoring with 9 seconds left in the half on a pass from Trace McSorley to Chris Godwin.

A light drizzle and sometimes heavy winds combined to limit the passing games in the first half. Barrett completed 13 of 24 passes for 125 yards. McSorley threw for 95 yards on 5-of-15 passing.

Penn State’s Barkley and Ohio State’s Mike Weber both had strong halves. Weber rushed 11 times for 60 yards. Barkley has 56 yards on seven carries.

There was only one turnover in the first half. Penn State’s John Reid muffed a punt, and Ohio State’s Terry McLaurin recovered. Ohio State turned that into a 22-yard drive and a 33-yard field goal by Durbin.
