Tuesday, May 13, 2008

NEW MIAMI — An open house will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at the New Miami Village Hall, 268 Whitaker Ave.

Village residents and business owners are encouraged to attend to find out more about New Miami's Drinking Water Protection Project. Light refreshments will be provided.

Extras

Village council is expected to have a final reading and pass the drinking water protection ordinance during the meeting that will follow at 6 p.m.

If passed, the ordinance strengthens a plan that calls for establishing a protected area reaching into St. Clair Twp., enhancing the village's emergency and contingency plan, implementing educational activities, regularly monitoring ground water, and controlling potential contaminant sources.

The plan also identifies and ranks — from low to high priority — 35 locations in and around the village as being potential contamination sources if they are not managed properly.
