MIDDLETOWN — The girls high school bowling season ended for Fairfield and Lakota East at the district tournament on Saturday, Feb. 28, at Eastern Lanes in Middletown.

But it's not over yet for one Badin athlete.

The Rams' Alyssa Marshall rolled a 616 (218, 196, 202) to snag the sixth and final individual spot at next week's state tournament.

"I feel like I'm having a little heart attack," Marshall said when she heard the news that she'll be competing next Friday at Tiki Lanes in Lancaster.

Marshall's score shattered her previous best by 80 pins.

"I practiced three times this week," said Marshall, a senior captain for the Rams. "The first two didn't go so well, but I had good third practice and that gave me the confidence in myself to come out and do my best.

"It was a lot of fun and a really exciting time to get my first 600 (series)."

Fairfield and Lakota West both sent full squads to districts, where the top six teams moved on.

Although neither she nor her team will advance (FHS finished 10th), Tribe senior Britanny Baker made the most of her appearance. Her 605 series (207, 206, 192) was her first 600 of the year and it marked her first two 200 games.

"I waited all season for this and it couldn't have come at a better time," she said. "I wanted to finish off my senior year with a bang and show the other girls that will be here next year that something like that can happen."

The Thunderhawks, who finished 24th, were led by Sarah Kemper's 566.

Lakota West's Clair Pace had a 460 (194, 117, 149).

The top six teams were Troy, Centerville, Beavercreek, Stebbins, Sidney and Fairborn.
