Butler County United Way still short of its $200,000 goal

BUTLER COUNTY — The Butler County United Way and Sheriff Richard Jones are still trying to raise $200,000 for the Campaign of Hope.
Officials have about half of the funds toward the campaign, which was launched last month as part of an eight-week emergency fundraising effort to prevent cuts to area social service agencies.
The call for help came after the United Way announced it had incurred a $500,000 debt due in part to a steady decline in donations the past two years.
The deficit forced the nonprofit agency to cut two key positions and other administrative costs, which will save nearly $200,000.
The campaign ends at the end of this month.
