County United Way surpasses 2005 goal

HAMILTON — Butler County United Way officials Wednesday announced they've raised more than $2.5 million for this year's campaign, up 5 percent from last year.
"We are very pleased where we are, given the economy," said Rick Demmel, campaign chairman.

At the 2006 Campaign Celebration of Progress luncheon Wednesday, organizers revealed they've raised $2.68 million.
During the luncheon, which took place at the Fitton Center for Creative Arts on Monument Avenue, United Way officials gave several awards to businesses and individuals for their continued efforts with the campaign.
Jenny Burton was named the 2006 Employee Campaign Coordinator of the Year. Burton, an administrative assistant with the city of Fairfield, is a longtime campaign coordinator for her office.
"It's for a good cause," she said after the luncheon. "I was surprised (to receive the award). The Butler County United Way is a very worthwhile organization, known for helping the community."
Western States Machine Co. and Mercy Health Partners were among the companies to receive the Bronze Award for companies that increased giving between 25 and 49 percent from last year.
Hydrotech, Inc. and Lakota Adena Elementary received the Silver Award for increasing contributions between 50 and 74 percent compared to last year.
Butler County Department of Job and Family Services and the Butler County Child Support Enforcement Agency were among the winners of the Platinum Award for increasing giving by more than 100 percent from last year. BCDJFS also received the Special Event of the Year Award.
Other awards included First Time Campaigns to several businesses and the top 10 contributing companies that coordinated campaigns securing corporate, employee and special events contributions.
"We're pleased, but it's never enough," Demmel said. "Last year we had a million dollars more in requests. We are very pleased with the campaign."
