OMAHA, Neb. — Oxford's Whitney Myers placed eighth in Monday's 100-meter butterfly finals at the U.S. swimming trials. The Ursuline Academy and University of Arizona standout still has two more tries to make the U.S. Olympic team, however.

Myers is scheduled to compete in the 200-meter Individual Medley, which begins with today's preliminary and semifinal rounds, with the final on Wednesday, July 2. The 200 IM is her best shot. She has the third quickest seeding time in the event.

The 23-year-old swimmer is also entered in the 100-meter freestyle. She has a 17th seeding in that event, which begins with prelims and semis on Thursday, with the finals July 4.

Christine Magnuson, 22, earned her first trip to the Olympics, rallying past Olympian Rachel Komisarz to win the 100-meter butterfly in 58.11 seconds. Myers' time was 59.22.

Elaine Breeden took second in 58.21. Komisarz, who won two medals at the 2004 Athens Games, was third in 58.36.

Katie Hoff rallied over the final 150 meters to win the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 4 minutes, 2.32 seconds. Kate Ziegler, America's best distance swimmer, claimed the second spot in 4:03.92.

Brendan Hansen won the men's 100-meter breaststroke.

Hansen held off Mark Gangloff with a time of 59.93, well off the mark of 59.13 he set nearly two years ago.
