Staff Report

Saturday, September 27, 2008

MOUNT HEALTHY — Quarterback Braden Park tossed three touchdown passes, and the Talawanda High School defense limited Mount Healthy to 181 total yards in a 28-12 Braves victory Friday, Sept. 26.

Park connected with Marshall Newman for a pair of scores — 22 and 5 yards — and found Ross Mallaley for a 12-yard score as Talawanda won its Fort Ancient Valley Conference Scarlet Division opener.

Alex Calhoun returned an interception 30 yards for a score for the Braves defense, which limited the Owls (2-4, 0-1 FAVC) to eight first downs and forced three turnovers. Russell Karagos recovered two fumbles for THS (3-3, 1-0).

"It was a game where we knew we were going to be outsized and our kids were going to have to step up," THS coach Mike Wright said. "We knew it was going to be a physical game, and our kids really stepped up to the challenge. We had a great defensive game plan tonight, and our kids executed well."
