Hamilton chooses new basketball coach
COMMENT: What do you think of the choice?
Friday, May 30, 2008
HAMILTON — Hamilton City School District officials have chosen Tim Robinson to be the new varsity boys basketball coach.
The school board unanimously approved Robinson at a special meeting Friday afternoon, May 30.
Robinson is a 1988 HHS graduate with 18 years of coaching experience in the district, including two seasons as the varsity assistant to former coach Larry Allen, who retired April 11.
"I really appreciate the opportunity," Robinson told the school board members. "I hope that once we get going, you guys look back and say 'I'm glad we gave this guy a chance.'
"I know the (lack of head coaching) experience thing is there, but I'm going to surround myself with good people and I'm a good listener," he continued. "I'm going to take it all in and hit the ground running."

Good luck. i hope you(BIG BLUE and the MIDDIES CAN GET BACK TO THE TOP IN THE LEAGUE. where you both belong. Its the best rivalry in the SATE. My only advice is be fair and consistant. let the parents know upfront what to expect and stay with it. GO BLUE. FROM A OLD MIDDIE( CLASS OF 57 ).

Tim Robinson was the only player that could get thru to them 2 hot heads and he settled many more players down. He is a perfect choice for the Head coaching position. He will bring out the toughness in our kids again. A Hamilton boy!

We need players like Tim and the ones mentioned, they all played the same syle of ball. Did what it took to win. That Anderson socked an official at Fairfield and Riggins socked a player that was playing dirty. Good Times!

Way to go Tim. Tim played with some of the Big Blues great players and played 3 years Varsity. Norm Grevey, Mo Riggins, Tyrice Walker, Tim Anderson, Ray Lawson, Donnie Riggins, Mike Reece and played under John Smith. Tim will due fine. And maybe we will see some of these great plyers in the stands to root for the Blue with him coaching.

I feel that that program has played “slow ball” too much and needs to push the game. I also understand that in order to do that you need the athletes for this to happen and you have to play to your strenghs. I just hope that Tim can create his own style which Im sure will come with time. I am not really concerned with him not having a degree. If that was not a requirement then it doesn’t matter at this time. Also, having a degree doesn’t me you can or can not coach, or if you will be successful.

First of all, I would like to say that I do not know Tim and really don’t know anything about him, except for playing bb for the blue. My only concern is I felt Hamilton needed a fresh face with new ideas. I truly understand that Tim bleeds blue and has coached in the system a long time and I think that is great. However, I think the basketball program needs a different direction. With Tim coaching under Allen, and in the system, will he coach like Allen or develop his own style.

we had the pleasure of watching Tim as a bb player in high school. He was a member of one of the most exciting teams ever to play. He is an outstanding young man who has a true passion for the sport. He will lead by example and Big Blue is lucky to have him. Our entire family including my daughter Cari, who is a friend and former classmate of Tim’s, all wish him the best and hope he goes easy on Fairfield…….

I for one am da**ed proud of Tim!! What more could we ask for than a man born and raised in Hamilton and also raising is family in Hamilton—-He is in it for the long haul—-not like some of the coachs we have had in the past—-Hamilton High is not a stepping stone for Tim—He Bleeds Blue!!! I really am shocked by some of these comments—-I guess if I want a job I just need to go talk to Maribeth—I didn’t realize that she had sooooooooo much POWER. You Go Timmy—we support you all the way!!!

CONGRATS TIM, I’M SO HAPPY FOR YOU AS ARE MANY OTHERS. I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK THIS YEAR. WHY IS THERE SUCH A NEED FOR NEGATIVE COMMENTS? MY MOMS ALWAYS TAUGHT ME “IF YOU HAVE NOTHING NICE TO SAY DON’T SAY IT AT ALL”,IF EVERYONE LIVED BY THAT RULE OUR WORLD WOULD NOT BE IN THE STATE IT’S IN. I KNOW YOU AND YOUR ASSISTANT WILL DO A FINE JOB WITHOUT A DOUBT. AND TO THE PERSON WHOM SAID YOUR WIFE GOT YOU THE JOB WELL THAT IS THE BEST JOKE I HAVE EVER HEARD…THANKS FOR THE LAUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations Tim Robinson. I don’t know why anyone is complaining about this choice, Tim will give his heart and soul to this prorgam for the next 20 years. It may be tough to win the next few years but wait until Tim develops the grade school talent. He’ll put the Blue back on top.

Congratulations to Tim Robinson he deserves it and hopefull he can change the image the for the BIG BLUE. To the person who thinks you need a degree to coach look at the little pro and the many of coaches out there who oversee athletes before they get to High school ranks. A Good coach is a good coach and a college education doesn’t make anyone a smarter coach knowing the game and how to deal with people does.

ITS A SHAME THAT YOU BY-PASSED A GOOD COACH WITH LOTS OF EXPERIENCE. WAY TO GO BOARD OF EDUCATION. WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO APPLIED FOR THE JOB, NO EXPERIENCE? WAS TIM REED OVER QUALIFIED LIKE THE REST OF THE APPLICANTS, LIKE THE SAYING GOES, NICE GUYS FINISH LAST. SEEMS LIKE THE BOARD HAD THEIR MINDS MADE UP EVEN BEFORE THEY INTERVIEWED THEM. IF EXPERIENCE TEACHING THE YOUNG MEN MEANS ANYTHING, YOU MISSED THE BOAT WITH TIM REED. GOOD LUCK TIM ROBINSON, YOU MAY NEED IT.

Tim is an excellent person for the job. Best of luck!!! However, as for the comment on the board and Kathy Leist I couldn’t agree more. The Hamilton City Schools needs a change and it needs to begin at the board office along with a few administrators at the middle school level. There is major problems with this district and worrying about who is coaching shouldn’t be at the top of the communities list of complaints.

Congratulations Timmy! I was pulling for you the whole time and really believe that you were/are the best person for the job. There will be some negative comments on this board about the hire and everyone is entitled to their opinion. But in the long run I really believe people will see why I wanted you coach of HHS Basketball. You hard work, dedication, love and knowledge of HHS basketball will continue to put HHS basketball atop the GMC standings.
Congratulations and good luck!

Fairfield thinks their school board has problems. Hamilton’s makes theirs smell like roses. People like Kathy Leist and Mike Dellapina (who is the worst AD Hamilton has ever had)have ruined this district. I don’t think your as educated as you seem. If you look under the Fair Standard Labor acts it clearly states an hourly employee cannot be paid overtime! I think someone needs to look into this!

REVISED: To all of you who have had the pleasure or displeasure of knowing Tim Robinson….Tim is qualified to be a high school basketball coach. To the individual who talked about Tim, “not having an college degree”, easy with the opinion…..last I checked it wasn’t a requirement. Besides, sometimes the lessons in life are the best forms of education. I’ve known Tim for many, many years and in my opinion, he is a very, very good choice. So easy with the educated comment and let Tim coach.

This is not a surprise at all…His wife got him the paraprofessional job (Hall Monitor) he has now and now she gets him the the basketball job. Same old story…what ever happened to the coach also being a teacher…nothing is going to change on this school board until those good olde boys and girls get out of there so we can finally get some changes for the good…and I bet Tim and MaryBeth are happy now..he can also coach his kid in Basketball too..along with WSLL Team.

Basketball will be fun to watch with Timmy at the helm. I expect 94 feet of pressure on defense and run-and-gun on offense. As soon as the elementary league gets built up ( and I expect it will) HHS will be back on top of the GMC. Who cancels their season tickets for the hiring of a high school coach? Funny. So, who would you all like to have seen get it?

This is a sad state of affairs. I can’t beleive the Nepatisim that takes place in the district. There were plenty of qualified coaches out there other than one that coaches little kids. Good job board glad to see you really did your research.Hope that you get what you want and that is a lot of blue seasons.

To all of the Nay Sayer’s out there I am sure the journal can find it for you but when it was Annouced that Coach Allen was leaving several of the kids on the Team posted similar as we are doing now and stated that wanted Coach Robinson. If he is good enough for them. He is good enough for me. We are only so lucky to have a Coach that can motivate These young men the way he can. Good luck Coach Robinson!

I am sad to see that the Board of Education does not value education. To hire a head coach who does not have a college degree is unaccaptable. What kind of message is this sending to our student?

I have watched this guy coach on many levels in several sports. He can motivate kids and he knows what he is doing. He will be committed and focused. It will be exciting to be back in the “W” column again; that is where he will take us. He will make a believer out of those nay-sayers out there.

I knew that they would pick Robinson for Coach. I think that they had their minds made up before interviewing started. HHS needs some new faces…..My son was coached by Robinson as a Freshman in Baseball and it is all about who you know. He let the good one stay on the bench, because he didn’t play for the summer team that all the other kids played on so therefore, he sat. My son was MVP his senior year of High School, and lead the league with the most home runs, and was voted first team…
