Cougars making best of facilities
CCS boys track team returns right regional qualifiers.
Thursday, March 27, 2008
As Cincinnati Christian continues to raise money for a new football/track facility, its track and field team has to make do with what's available. Some days, they practice at the Lakota Freshman school; other days, they practice in the CCS parking lot.
CCS has 12 boys and 13 girls this season, including eight returning regional qualifiers: junior Josiah Bragg (3,200 meters, 4x800 relay); sophomore Isaiah Bragg (3,200 meters, 4x800 relay); sophomore Jemal Potter (4x100 relay); senior David Creed (4x800 relay); sophomore Michelle Baab (100 and 200); junior Michelle Mead (300 hurdles and 4x800 relay); senior Katie Lanphier (4x800 relay); and junior Rachel Burton (4x800 relay).
Extras
Key returnees
The Bragg brothers have improved considerably over the past year, having trimmed more than 30 seconds off of their 5-kilometer time during the cross country season.
Creed and junior Lance Mayberry also will run distance events.
Potter is the team's top male returning sprinter and Baab the top female sprinter. Both will likely compete in the 100 and 200 events.
Burton, Lanphier and Mead return from the regional-qualifying 4x800 relay team. Burton also will likely compete in the 800, while Lanphier and Mead may both run hurdle events.
Promising newcomers
Freshman Lindsay Mead, Michelle's younger sister, is a talented distance runner who made regionals in cross country — the Cougars' only female representative.
Quotable
"Overall, we have a lot more depth in the distance events. On the girls side, we have scorers in a lot more places." — Dan Bragg.
