Location & description
A natural paradise, Lake Hope State Park lies entirely within the 26,824-acre Zaleski State Forest in the valley of Big Sandy Run. It is a rugged, heavily forested region traversed by steep gorges and narrow ridges.
Cottages
- Wildlife, Iron Furnace, and Forest cottages for overnight visitors year round
- Iron Furnace, Forest cottages have woodburning fireplaces
- Groups may reserve Laurel Lodge, sleeps 22 persons, open year round
- Cottages have linens, towels, complete kitchens, microwave ovens, heat, air conditioning, outdoor grills
Camping
- 219 sites suitable for tents or trailers
- 46 sites have electric hookups
- Pets are permitted
- Campground has heated showerhouses, pit latrines, waste disposal, laundry facilities, picnic tables, fire rings.
- 3 Rent-A-Camp units with tent, dining fly, cooler, cook stove and other equipment
- A camper-cabin and a Rent-A-Tepee can be rented during summer months
- 2 primitive lakeside campsites are a short hike from the group camps and may be reserved
- A group camp is available for organized groups on a reservation basis.
- A horsemen's camp is offered for bridle trail users in Zaleski State Forest
Boating
- Electric motors only on the 120 acre lake
- Canoes, kayaks, and rowboats are available for rent
Fishing and Hunting
- Anglers will find good catches of bluegill, catfish, crappie and largemouth bass
- Hunting is permitted in the adjacent Zaleski State Forest
- A valid Ohio hunting or fishing license is required
Swimming
- Facilities include a beachhouse with sun deck, restrooms, concession building
Picnicking
- Picnic areas with tables and grills are located around the park
- 2 picnic shelters are available on a first-come, first-served basis or by reservation
Hiking
- 17 miles of hiking trails traverse the lake and scenic woodlands
- In the adjacent Zaleski State Forest, a 21-mile backpack trail with primitive campsites is available
- Backpackers must register upon arrival
- 33 miles of bridle trail in the state forest are available

The Hope School House Interpretive Center features exhibits and programs on the area's rich history. The park offers boat rental, volleyball and basketball courts, horseshoe pits and playgrounds in day use areas.
