LifeSpan is pleased and grateful to be one of the agencies that receive much-needed financial assistance from the Butler County United Way. Thanks to their support of $123,450, LifeSpan is able to provide a range of services for the Butler County area that address our mission — “Strengthening families and individuals who seek to improve the quality of their lives.”

LifeSpan (formerly Family Services) began serving the Butler County community in 1945. Since that time, our mission has remained the same, as our services expanded to include support for elderly and disabled residents in their homes, family counseling, advocacy, credit counseling and school-based support.

In the last fiscal year, LifeSpan served more than 10,000 families in the Butler County United Way area, providing almost 90,000 hours of service. With the help of $67,000 from the Butler County United Way, LifeSpan counselors provided behavioral-health counseling for 400 families or individuals, including 160 children who had suffered from abuse, exhibited defiance or parental conflict issues, or were doing poorly in school.

Butler County United Way dollars ($38,760) were also used to conduct budget help and debt-management seminars for families facing tough economic times or hoping to purchase their first homes. LifeSpan credit counselors also worked with individuals to develop debt-payback plans and secured a reduction in creditor interest for those facing high credit-card debts.

With the help of Butler County United Way ($17,690), LifeSpan home care aides assist frail elderly and disabled residents throughout the Butler County area with such basic needs as doing laundry, vacuuming, grocery shopping and bathing. These are all tasks that we take for granted until severe arthritis, heart conditions and other ailments prevent our community neighbors and friends from caring for themselves.

We greatly appreciate the support from the community for United Way programs and agency providers. Without community support for our programs, we would not be able to assist those families most in need.
