About the sidewalk and the curbing that’s going over the Black Street bridge in Hamilton: The bridge has been there for many years and here the city is putting a sidewalk across it. For what reason? Have they checked the bridge to make sure it is in good shape? They are doing all this work, (and) who walks across it? That’s wasted money. They should put that on Main Street.
Commissioner Greg Jolivette complains in the Nov. 6 JournalNews that “cliques and vendettas and power grabs” characterize the Butler County Republican Party, but it is laughable that he wants a return to the Butler County GOP of the past. Greg, have you forgotten? Until 10 years ago, you were a Democrat. You were a Democrat until the Republican Party made you an offer of campaign funds that you just couldn’t refuse. So you grabbed for power and changed parties. Now you’ve got nothing to complain about.
The new City Council needs to look at the way the city is spending tax dollars. Example: On Nov. 2, at 11:30 a.m. on High Street, I encountered a large traffic backup — with city crews hanging Christmas lights on the trees. The crews consisted of a $135,000 boom truck, two unionized city employees and a supervisor. ... If we have this kind of money to spend in these kinds of times, then please fix my potholes. And yes, I do believe in Santa Claus.
Why can’t they pave that southwest corner of Ohio Bypass 4 and Tylersville Road so you can turn right when there’s no traffic coming?
I read the editorial about ending voter registration problems by having the Bureau of Motor Vehicles automatically register you to vote. Well, until the Bureau of Motor Vehicles in Ohio cleans up its act and stops issuing driver licenses to people who aren’t even living in this state or who are not legal citizens of this country, I think that’s a terrible idea. They need to be sure the people who are being issued licenses actually live in Ohio and are who they say they are.
These football players at schools who lose the game and cry about it: Grow up. You act like 5-year-olds.
I was calling to say how much I enjoyed the holiday wallpaper that the Hamilton JournalNews had available to us last year by going to their Web site. I am hoping you will do it again this year and maybe go a little bit further — putting up some for Valentine’s Day, Easter and Thanksgiving. ...
In regard to the red-light cameras they are talking about putting up in the city of Hamilton: I have three automobiles listed in my name. I was wondering — if my wife, my son, my daughter or neighbor is driving my car and gets a ticket for running a red light, who gets the ticket? Them or the owner of the car? What happens here?
Editor’s note: The city plans to use its one mobile camera for speed enforcement, not red-light enforcement. Citations go to the registered owner of the vehicle who — in the instance described — could contest the citation on the grounds that he/she was not driving the vehicle at the time of the recorded infraction.
Regarding a neighbor who has about 70 dogs and who lives on Ross Avenue: They are keeping everybody awake all night long. I have called the dog pound, the city, the dog warden and nothing seems to be getting done about it. That is a few too many dogs for a residential neighbor. I am asking anybody who lives in the neighborhood to get behind us and get something done about the dogs. The neighbor is a very nice guy, but the dogs have got to go.
