It is difficult to lay off safety personnel — as is being considered by commissioners — but they are required by law to have a balanced budget. There have been proposals to find a way to combine or merge the city police into the sheriff’s department, but it seems to fall on deaf ears. I will do this through the end of the year if anybody is willing to do this.
