I am writing to respond to a couple of topics that I have read in Community Voice. I would like to start with the individuals bashing people who are on public assistance.
Are they not living in the same hard times as most people these days? Maybe they should be thankful that they are not standing in a welfare line themselves.
I can only assume that the people calling in with all the negative comments are still working, paying mortgages, pumping premium fuel in their Hummers, and walking around with blinders on.
People have been taking advantage of the system for years, but in these economic times, no one should assume that people need public assistance simply because they’re lazy. People out there are struggling to make ends meet.
They are losing their jobs and their homes, and I can only imagine how it must feel to wonder how you are going to feed your children or get them medical attention when they become ill.
Instead of looking down your nose at people less fortunate than you, maybe you should be grateful it’s not you. Maybe you should stop concerning yourself with what they have in their shopping carts and focus on your own spending — because some day that might be you.
Now what about gays in the military? Does it really matter what your sexual preference is when you’re in a war zone?
Any individual serving in our military, gay or not, has chosen to fight for the rights and freedoms of our country and everyone in it, including all you haters.
Do these close-minded people really think that gays join the service to find a date or get freaky with a fellow in a foxhole? That way of thinking is just ridiculous to me. ...
We live in a world of diversity and it doesn’t matter to me about an individual’s race, religion, gender or sexual preference. Live and let live. Quit taking on a responsibility that doesn’t belong to you.
We will all be judged one day and — when that day comes, there will be no take-backs, do-overs or mulligans. Maybe if we all just focus on ourselves and what is going on in our own lives, the world would be a much more peaceful place.
Regardless of our opinions, differences and personal views, I believe we were all put here for a reason and hatred is definitely not one of them. ...

Whatever - My existence is just fine. It would be far better if government - at the behest of people like you - quit stealing from me for all manner of ridiculous, useless, and totally wasteful pursuits. If you want a nanny gvt, you go pay for it yourself.
