Have we forgotten our troops? Remember? Shortly after our troops went into Iraq, everywhere you went, there were signs up: “Pray for our troops” and “Remember our troops.” Stores had barrels set out that we could drop items in for our troops.
As a mom of a Marine who was just deployed to Afghanistan, I have really noticed that our troops seem to be forgotten. My son was 11 years old when the Twin Towers were attacked. At 15, he told me he wanted to be a Marine. I asked why. His reply: “Because I want to serve my country.” Pretty big words for a 15-year-old.
At 19, he is now serving his country. With family and friends, I am on a mission to get our community to remember our troops. I am going to be contacting our stores and see if we can’t get the barrels back. I know that, with the way the economy is, it is hard to donate items. ... Please, Hamilton residents, let’s remember our troops.
