Don't blame the truck drivers

Regarding the caller who said he was a trucker and knows trucks don’t have to come down Main Street: Could you tell me — with the Fox Highway being opened up and them trying to get across town — what route are they supposed to take? It is not the fault of the truck driver. They have to get to where they are going on main roads and — like it or not — Main/High Street is a main road. You can blame the city leaders for the bricks in the road that are holding up the truck traffic. It’s not the drivers. ...

I am a native of Hamilton and have been a resident for 57 years. I have noticed — coming across from the West Side — that the courthouse clock no longer works. I noticed the steps are in need of excessive repair. One of our greatest assets in Hamilton is our downtown area. I would like to see, once again, that the clock would be working and the steps would be useable — to actually walk on. I would hope that the mayor of our city would take this call seriously because the downtown is a vital area. The community needs a place to gather and I think the courthouse is one of our most proud things that we have in Hamilton for our history.

About the truck traffic on High and Main streets: People have to realize that those streets are state routes, which give the truckers the right to travel on them — because their fuel taxes pay for the roads. What is the city of Hamilton doing with their share of the ODOT (Ohio Department of Transportation) money to help maintain those roads? Trucks have every right to be there. ...

Thank God (Barack) Obama wasn’t president during World War II. The president said in March that he’s going to make Afghanistan his war. He’s had three months to discuss it. (He) Handpicked his general. The general says we need 40,000 more troops. (Obama has) had three months to think about it. He can’t make up his mind. ... If President Obama had been running World War II, D-Day would never have occurred and we probably would have surrendered and sat down and had a discussion with Hitler and Hirohito. Wake up, America. This is not leadership.

I read in the JournalNews about the turkey shoot on Beissinger Road. I am a lady, and my father and I went to a turkey shoot at that location (years ago). I got in on the action. They give you a white paper with a target on it, that’s numbered. I won. When they checked the shotgun holes, I had the winner. When they called my number, I stepped forward. I was the only lady there. When the guy saw that I was the lady, he said, “uh-oh,” and he grabbed another paper, saying: “Wrong one. This is the winning one.” There were a lot of guys there. I didn’t say anything because my father was there. I didn’t want him to get hurt. I didn’t tell him what happened. He didn’t see. He was kind of back behind in the crowd. I told him on the way home and he really looked hurt. But it was kind of funny, too, to beat all you guys. Do you remember that, guys? It was a long time ago. My father is gone now but he’s the guy who taught me how to do it. I can still shoot a can thrown in the air. He taught me very well. I think about that every time I see that turkey shoot in the JournalNews. I know you guys remember that brown-haired girl standing and waiting for the win that didn’t come.

Sen. George Voinovich wants a commission to decrease the national debt. Since 2000, the Republicans have increased the debt by almost $6 trillion. My e-mails pleaded with him to speak out against runaway Republican spending. He was silent. Now that the Republicans are out of power, he finds his voice. He is a fraud, just like John Boehner.
