Blame it on the economy

Hot Topics

I am tired of people talking to the poor the way they do. We have people who have been hard-working who have tried to keep themselves together. It isn’t that they made bad choices; it’s just that the economy has gone south. It’s the Republicans’ and (Ronald) Reagan’s policies that have brought us to this point. You can’t have pure capitalism without the ups and downs that we’ve experienced in the past 20 years or more.

Regarding health care reform: If we can spend the money to go to war the way we do, we can spend money for our health care. We are the only industrialized nation that doesn’t have it. If the Democrats don’t get their act together and get this passed, I just may turn socialist. It was socialism that brought public utilities to this town. A little bit of socialism isn’t bad.

President (Barack) Obama again has decided to punt and push the decision about what to do in Afghanistan down the road. If this is somebody’s idea of presidential leadership and the ability to make decisions, I’m going to eat my shoes. In a word, pathetic.

Again, this isn’t about adding troops, keeping levels the same or in getting out...it’s about Obama’s continuing indecision and the message that sends to that region, our foes, and the risks that all brings to our troops and their morale.

Obama talked like he was commander-in-chief on the campaign trail regarding Afghanistan and now that he’s president, it’s long overdue for him to actually act like one.

What may seem like an inability to decide to you just may be him weighing all the options besides just sending in more troops, whether it is 100 or 10,000 they are all at risk over there. There is no guarantee that sending more will solve this, you can't change their culture and that in the end is what is needed, Iraq shows that, I'm sure there was some good that came from our being but there but is it worth the cost? When we are gone, they will go back to what they were, they have to change.

This debate isn't about what Obama will do in Afghanistan...it's about his continuing inability to decide.

That, in and of itself, puts our troops on the ground at risk.

That's right! let's rush in again like Bush did in Iraq, because we all know how well that has turned out, if you're so gung ho on it then by all means go sign up and get your self over there.

Regarding health care reform:
Common defense and international relations (however poorly they are done) are the proper responsibility of the federal government. NOWHERE in the Constitution does the federal government have the right to direct or provide health care coverage.
On the other hand, the 10th amendment reserves to the states or the people all rights not specifically mentioned. The people can authorize the City to run a private enterprise, which Hamilton citizens did via the Charter.
