I want to thank City Council for voting “yes” to Artspace. Artspace is a long-term, forward-thinking endeavor that can only stand to jump-start our economy and bring life to Hamilton.

Artspace residents will participate in community-building activities as part of the Artspace mission. They will open their studios to the community and will frequent the businesses located around their residence. Artspace promises to enhance the cultural and economic vitality of Hamilton.

It might seem scary to invest in Artspace right now, during this time of economic strain, but when the recession subsides, it will be even scarier if we passed on this opportunity to bring life into Hamilton through Artspace.

The funds provided by the city’s general fund for Artspace would not have been sustainable enough to be used elsewhere on jobs or roads beyond a year’s time. The majority of the funds have been provided by charitable donations. We have to remember that this is an investment for our future.
